Due to the current high cost of fuel, Wightlink will
be introducing a fuel surcharge which will come into effect at 0001
hours on Friday 9th May 2008 and will apply to all tickets purchased
from this date onwards.
In order to make the fuel surcharge as transparent as possible, a
sliding scale will be introduced that is linked to the price of oil
(Brent Crude). The surcharge will rise if the price of oil rises further
but will decrease if the price of oil falls.
The fuel surcharge will apply for each passenger or vehicle type for
each leg of their journey.
The amount chargeable will be determined by the movement of the price of
oil between set price bands (see table below).
The initial fuel surcharge has been set at Band D ($105 - $115 per
barrel).

NB: If oil prices rise above $135 per barrel, then
further surcharge bands will be created. The surcharge will be set at
the beginning of every month based on the average price of Brent Crude
in the previous month.
The fuel surcharge will be automatically included
in the total fare quoted when booking online. |
